Although many brands still present their men's and women's clothing collections separately on two different catwalks, many trends tend to overlap and fit into both wardrobes. For the Resort and Spring / Summer 2022 seasons, designers offer a wide variety of trends that don't fit into a genre category, highlighting a growing trend to drop labels. FashionUnited looks at five genderless trends that will lead the way next season. fashionglee
The tank top
The cistern top has been a wardrobe staple for both men
and womenfolk for decades, but it will be particularly ubiquitous next
summer. From ribbed knits to oversized cuts, the versions are endless and
blend from head to toe. However, what has caught our attention is that
most of the designs work for both men and women. In Courrèges, we have
seen a fishnet top to wear alone or in multilayers, in Dhruva Kapoor, with
metallic texture and colorful details, while in Dolce & Gabbana, the
protagonist is the timeless white tank top. Vetements opted for versioning
the flowers and Atlein for the silky orange. For his Resort 2022
collection, Christian Wijnants presented a black, white and green knit
version. The common note? They will all go together perfectly in
men's and women's wardrobes.
The XL blazer
Blazers are a safe bet for creating a look from scratch,
and will have particularly large measurements for Spring / Summer 2022. Men's
and women's designs look similar, the only difference is the size in which they
are cut. Alberta Ferretti opted for a safari-inspired chocolate version
while the French brand AMI Paris presented a complete collection based on
double-breasted or plain blazers cut to large proportions. At Balenciaga,
volumes are always exaggerated, so it's no surprise that jackets have quirky
shapes. Comme Des Garçons Homme Plus opted for a white version finished
with fringes, COOL ™ * chose a bright red one and The Row an extra-long design.
The midi kilt
The midi kilt will be in full swing next summer, for both
men's and women men's wardrobes. Although it has already made a timid advent
in menswear collections in the past, Spring / Summer 2022 will be the season of
its democratization. We've seen a pleated pinstripe version in Thom Browne
paired with a matching blazer, and a beige and patterned combo in Sean
Suen. At Balmain, they opted for a totally black lace-up model. In
the womenswear collections, Adeam featured a version with cargo-inspired
stripes and Blumarine in military green.
The blouse with bow
A staple of the preppy apparel, the bow blouse has been a
constant in the Spring / Summer 2022 collections, both on the women's and men's
catwalks. Saint Laurent led the way with bow blouses in multiple versions
and different shades. Anthony Vaccarello declared his love for his this
iconic piece with metallic gold or black striped bow patterns. At Dunhill,
an elegant button-down shirt was paired with an oversized cardigan and bow
brooch. Carolina Herrera opted for a light striped option, Coach presented
a plaid option, while Paco Rabanne opted for the printed total-look finished
with a lavallière collar.
The knitted vest
A staple of men's fashion, the knitted vest has made its
way into women's collections over the past few years and is now suitable for
both genders. For next summer, Tory Burch introduced a navy sleeveless jumper
over a patterned shirt and Burberry showed off a tan turtleneck version paired
with a matching cardigan. In the menswear collections, we saw a gray
braided knit vest in Robyn Lynch, a blue V-neck vest in Namacheko and a classic
beige with graphic print at Dior Homme.
