fashion catwalk to the street

The boldest trends in fashion move naturally from the runway to the streets season after season. The last? Vinyl pants. They have been part of the fashion scene for years, but their brilliant appeal has played a greater role in recent collections. From FashionUnited we immerse ourselves in a trend that hits hard. techsupportreviews

Patent leather, shiny fabrics and vinyl have been a part of avant-garde fashion and runway collections for decades. Courrèges introduced these unusual fabrics into the fashion of the 60s and since then, they have been a constant. Vinyl trousers stand out for their showiness and we have seen how they are increasingly making their way into the offer of more brands.

Balmain presented some versions for Winter 2019, however, it is Saint Laurent's Fall / Winter 2019/2020 collection that really paved the way for success. Accompanied by double-breasted men's blazers and oversized leathers, Saint Laurent's vinyl pants were mostly black. Although we also saw some color notes in shades of raspberry, bright blue or purple. The shiny weave of the vinyl was teamed with cozy winter tweeds, checkered prints and large bows to soften the ensemble.

Designer Anthony Vaccarello also opted for some new vinyl looks for his Pre-Fall 2021 collection, combining fitted coats with patent leather pants and white or black blouses with bows. The result was androgynous and elegant silhouettes that embodied the Parisian aesthetic of the brand with poise.

Many designers have recently shown their own version of the vinyl pants, such as Lapointe and her tan cropped pants for Resort 2022 or Isabel Marant and her bright indigo style for Fall / Winter 2021.

Although it seems like a daring garment that not everyone would be willing to wear, vinyl pants have been slowly making their way into the collections of high-end brands and, lately, those of high-street retailers. Kassel Editions have created a straight leg option in black, MM6 Maison Margiela a masculine-inspired design and Commando have a vinyl version of their iconic faux leather leggings in their permanent collection. On the main streets, retailers, from Asos to NA-KD, mainly offer skinny styles and leggings in black, but little by little more colorful designs are appearing, such as red and bright pink.

Vinyl wears a set

With more affordable brands that help spread the trend, vinyl and patent leather pants are an easy option to keep yourself company. Mix them with chunky knitwear and oversized cardigans for winter or pair them with a simple button-down shirt for the transition to fall. Although black is presented as the safest option and is a timeless purchase for years to come, consider the color to brighten up some neutrals or combine it with other seasonal tones. Simple flat sandals or sneakers are a perfect option for a daytime look.
